Understand Yourself

The power of becoming a son of Abraham.

When an evil man repents of the sins that led to his evil and turns to G‑d, then the energy that he put into his sins becomes converted into wholeness. The darkness of his past deeds becomes a great light to those who can learn from him.

“Go to yourself” (Understand yourself) Level 2

“Go to yourself” (Understand yourself) Level 2

Perhaps, these are the most important words spoken in all history.

With these words, spoken to our father Abraham, the course was set that would begin to reverse the process of degeneration that humanity had been locked into ever since the expulsion from the garden. With these words, a path was opened up to the Giving of Torah (Five books of the Moses) at Mount Sinai.

These words of Torah are instruction so we can learn how to live new lives. With these words, we find out that we are custom made individuals by the living God. With these words, we discover that life is a series of test and they are a challenge to change our values. With these words, we come to see that we are to be a blessing to others and not a self seeking predator.

There were righteous individuals who preceded Abraham but none were successful. Some were not even interested in turning the tide of estrangement from God. When God spoke His first words, “Lech lecha,” (Go to yourself ) to Abraham, it demonstrated the He would respond to any human being's efforts to dedicate their life to “His truth.”

The words of the LORD preserved the righteous “Way.” Then, mankind could choose Godly ways and begin to repair the world’s corrupted influences with G-d’s implied permission .

With these words, “Lech lecha,” to Abraham, it demonstrated that He would respond to any human beings efforts to dedicate his life to truth. God had previously spoken to Noah but He did so on His own initiative. Unlike Abraham, Noah did not actively seek out God, nor did he actively try to promote Monotheism.

How is your journey coming? Remember, you are you a “Child of Abraham.” As Children of Abraham we are a composite of body and soul. Thus, all we are involved with, contains both elements of body and soul, that cry out to be elevated to be more than just the material and the spiritual.  The two, cry out to become united as one, like our Creator.   The fact that we are created in the image of our Creator, when we are content to live ordinary lives leaves a lot to be desired.   Whereas routine activities are generally motivated by material or physical gain, the "soul" is also involved with all these every day transactions and calls out for some sort of recognition.   It is our soul that calls for the infusion of daily affairs with an awareness of greater objectives and higher purposes than simply ordinary living. The giving of charity, the education of our children, helping the sick, all of these are the spiritual incentives that ought to motivate one in his daily activities.   The achievement of harmony between one's soul and one's material life, is a real enhancement of the Image.   The achievement of harmony between materialism and spirituality is the same as harmony between now and the world to come where we will see Him as He is.
