Control
The controlling Spirit – Why?
When someone “has a controlling spirit,” it doesn’t necessarily mean that they have to be demon possessed. It can simply be that they are yielding to their own human desire (evil inclination) for controlling any situation through techniques acquired in their past history of manipulation.
A controlling spirit stems from a tendency to “fear” something. A careful look at this situation reveals that it involves trying to get others to do their will because they don’t want to face something in the future. A controlling spirit doesn’t have to be limited to just controlling people. Some may even try to get God to do their will through selfish or controlling prayers. This is showing a lack of Emunah (faithfulness) and trust for the Creator. They have a hard time believing that our Creator does only “the very best for us.”
Some characteristics of a controlling spirit.
First, the controlling spirit has a huge ego and thus, it craves power because it knows it doesn’t have much but bluff. The controlling spirit does this by taking some sort of authority from within, or from without by another created authority. As an authority, it may cherry pick verses from the bible that seem to say what they want to say, but they are fearful, at the same time, of what the rest of God's word says. Sometimes people say things that agree with their perspective and they use that for their authority.
With this false authority, the controlling spirit not only fulfills its need for power, but also gets tremendous “ego” satisfaction as it “continually maneuvers for a higher position” on any hierarchical totem pole available, whether real or imaginary. It may see itself as a picture of goodness but basically, it has very little trust for God and His goodness.
Secondly, controlling spirits will seek to reaffirm their authority over and over again. They have to do this because, at the very core of their being, they know that they have “no real authority.” They look for opportunities to remind others that they have some sort of great insight or wisdom that gives them authority.
In beginning, It was indicated that controlling spirits don't have to have a demon to function. They are not haunted, but because of their curiosity, they look for things that will enhance their ability to stem off the thing they fear the most. What is that?
That is the thing we all fear the most. We all fear “rejection” which leads to defective bonding, or lack of “commitment.” Yeshua said “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Only covenant keeping person can say something like that. Those that cannot keep covenant have a two fold sickness; faithlessness and lack of commitment.
Today, many people enter into marriage not even knowing what it is for. The only reason to enter into marriage is to have Godly children. Men and women are the only sexes that can even do that. God separated Adam onto the male aspect and the female aspect of what marriage should be; two aspects of two retuning together and becoming one. The controlling spirit lacks trust for God and other relationships, including its' mate. When a “Controlling Spirit” unites with another and copulates, a new life may be produced but that is not enough for a relationship or marriage to be assured that the family will continue on. Only when faithfulness and commitment are injected into the union, will there be a true marriage.
Conclusion: Trust God and let Him be in control.
